Until a decade or so ago, the majority of foreign buyers were heading to the north of Italy. Today, this trend is clearly changing. The south, particularly Calabria, is attracting those looking for tranquillity, authenticity and reasonable prices.
Poles are increasingly comparing the cost of living, property purchase and maintenance - and it is Calabria that compares most favourably. The lack of mass tourism, the friendly climate and the openness of the inhabitants make the region a viable alternative to crowded and expensive locations.
It is a conscious choice - based on the quality of life, not the prestige of the address.
